Job Description

Job Overview:

The role of the School Counsellor involves providing support to students, parents, and staff at KIS (English International Stream) through individual and small group counseling, as well as facilitating workshops. The successful candidate will collaborate with the school’s counseling team to deliver a comprehensive counseling program that addresses the personal and social development of all students.

 

Reporting Structure:

The appointee will report to the Head of Counseling and will be responsible for:

- Providing personal counseling to students, both individually and in groups, for remedial or developmental purposes.

- Offering cross-cultural counseling to assist local and international students in maximizing their educational experience.

- Conducting workshops, seminars, and orientation activities focused on student mental health, developmental issues, academic concerns, and life skills.

- Implementing interventions for students, faculty, and staff in crisis situations.

- Providing consultation services to faculty and staff regarding the mental health issues and developmental needs of individual students.

 

Collaboration:

The appointee is expected to work closely with academic departments and non-academic offices to help students address personal concerns and acquire the skills, attitudes, and insights necessary to navigate the challenges of student life.

A gratuity will be provided upon successful completion of the contract.

 

Role & Responsibilities:

- Develop and implement a competitive school counseling program that promotes student success.

- Collaborate with Heads of School, teachers, parents, community organizations, and other stakeholders.

- Coordinate and schedule individual and group counseling sessions.

- Recognize and respond to the diversity and individual differences of students.

- Refer students to additional support services and mental health professionals as needed.

- Conduct assessments, interpret tests, and review student records, providing regular progress reports.

- Listen to students’ concerns regarding social, academic, or personal circumstances and offer guidance on how to address these issues.

- Provide pastoral care and well-being support to all students.

 

Requirements:

- Master’s degree in counseling or clinical psychology, with registration or eligibility for registration with the Hong Kong Psychological Society, or certification from the Hong Kong Professional Counseling Association or other internationally recognized professional bodies.

- Proven experience in school counseling.

- Familiarity with various counseling models, practices, and resources, along with practical experience in applied counseling strategies.

- Ability to effectively respond to the needs of a diverse student population.

- High level of integrity and professionalism.

- Advocacy skills to recognize the impact of social, political, economic, and cultural factors on human development, helping students understand their lives in context.

- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

- Culturally sensitive, tolerant, and patient disposition.

- Recent experience in a school setting is preferred.

- Positive, proactive, and independent work ethic.
