Business Development Manager

Wan Chai
3 year(s) work experience

Job Description

Our Mission

To deliver green electricity to ships — both at berth and for propulsion — through the investment, development, and operation of a comprehensive maritime electrification infrastructure network across Asia.

The Role

We are looking for a dynamic Business Development Manager to turn this mission into reality. You will be the key driver in identifying and securing new projects, building the partnerships that will form our network across ASEAN, Japan, Korea, and Taiwan.

This is a hands-on, high-impact role. You will spend more than half of your time traveling across the region to meet directly with ports, terminals, and shipping companies, finding opportunities for shore power and vessel electrification.

Key Responsibilities

  • Identify New Opportunities: Find and evaluate potential projects for shore power ("cold ironing") and vessel charging infrastructure at ports and with shipping companies, targeting high-traffic ferry, container terminals, river trade terminals and the fast-growing cruising market.

  • Build Strategic Partnerships: Develop strong, trusting relationships with key decision-makers in the maritime sector, from port authorities to ship owners.

  • Manage the Sales Cycle: Lead new business engagements from the first introduction all the way to a signed agreement.

  • Understand the Market: Conduct research to understand the specific needs of each port and client, and tailor our solutions to meet them.

  • Drive Growth: Actively manage a pipeline of opportunities and work with the team to execute our growth strategy across Asia.

Your Profile

You are a connector and a builder, with a solid understanding of the maritime industry and the drive to create a more sustainable future.

You Must Have:

  • 3-5 years of experience in the maritime, port, or a closely related industry.

  • An existing network of contacts in the Asian maritime sector.

  • Proven success in a sales or business development role.

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.

  • Full professional fluency in English and Mandarin or Cantonese.

  • A bachelor's degree.

  • A genuine passion for our mission and the willingness to travel extensively (>50%).

Nice to Have:

  • Japanese language skills.

  • Experience or knowledge in renewable energy, electrification, or decarbonization projects.

  • An entrepreneurial mindset and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.

Why Join Us?

You will be a foundational member of Wah Kwong NatPower Holdings (“WK NatPower”), a joint venture between Wah Kwong Maritime Transport and NatPower Marine, designed to transform Asia's ports into hubs of sustainability. This partnership is a powerful combination of deep maritime heritage and global clean energy execution.

Wah Kwong Maritime Transport Limited is a family-owned integrated shipping company based in Hong Kong with a global outlook, with offices in Shenzhen, London and Genoa. Established in 1952 by T. Y. Chao and currently managed by the third generation of the Chao family, Wah Kwong owns and operates a diversified fleet of vessels in addition to offering a full range of ship management and marine consultancy services to our customers in China, Asia, Middle East and Europe. Wah Kwong currently has four main business streams—ship owning, ship management, dry bulk operating and energy.

WK NatPower aims to leverage Wah Kwong's maritime experience and NatPower's renewable energy expertise to invest in, develop, and operate a comprehensive maritime electrification infrastructure network across Asia. The Company aims to supply clean power for ships at berth for cold ironing and for propulsion, driving the maritime industry towards a sustainable future.

Together, we offer a unique and powerful platform. You will have the credibility of a respected shipowner and the technical/financial strength of a global energy developer behind you. This synergy allows us to fully fund, build, and operate the infrastructure, removing a major barrier for ports and accelerating the adoption of clean shipping energy across Asia.

To Apply

If you are ready to help power the future of shipping with clean energy, please send your resume and a brief note explaining your interest.

We are an equal opportunity employer and welcome applications from all qualified candidates. The information provided will be treated in strict confidentiality and used for consideration of application for relevant/similar roles only. Applicants not being invited for interview in 6 weeks after job application may consider their application unsuccessful and your personal data will be destroyed after a period of 6 months.
