Job Description

Summary of Duties:

  • Implements the Consulate General’s property management and preventative maintenance plans in the office sites, residential flats and warehouse;
  • Identifies and reports on maintenance needs and breakdowns within all properties and equipment of the Consulate General;
  • Performs/carries out management approved remedy work, repairs and corrective measures as directed;
  • Coordinates logistics and distribution of goods including furniture, equipment, appliances, tools, etc.;
  • Responsible for official event set up and take down within Consulate General’s properties, including moving furniture and equipment;
  • Supports logistics for the set-up of residential flats and carries out general inspections of residential properties, residential furniture, fittings and equipment;
  • Performs general supervision of property related work (maintenance, repairs, installations, etc.) within the Consulate General’s properties;
  • Drives the office owned cargo van or other office owned vehicles for business purposes as required, including for the transport and movement of goods;
  • Performs other duties as required.

External applicants residing in Hong Kong, all current Consulate General employees occupying an indeterminate or term position, emergency employees, and spouses and dependents of Canada Based Staff who meet all the essential qualifications stated below and whose applications are received by the closing date.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS

Candidates will initially be screened against the Essential Qualifications relating to education, language* and experience. Candidates must clearly demonstrate when applying to the position how they meet each of these essential qualifications. *Language will be assessed further during the process.

Education:Candidates will be required to provide proof of the completion of their education.

Successful completion of Secondary School, or a vocational training program in relevant subjects such as plumbing, electrical installation, painting and decoration, air-conditioning installation, etc.

Language:Fluency in written/spoken Cantonese

Experience: Minimum of 6 months work experience as qualified technician in a property maintenance related field in one or more areas such as: installation of equipment, painting, electrical systems, air conditioning/ventilation systems, plumbing or carpentry, etc. Driving experience and possession of a valid HKSAR driving license with Class 1 & 2 and good driving skills

RATED REQUIREMENTS

The Rated Requirements are part of the essential qualifications and are relating to knowledge, abilities and competencies. Methods of assessment for rated requirements may include, but are not limited to, a written examination, an oral interview (online pre-recorded/live or in person), role-play, practical tests, presentations and/or psychometric assessment.

Knowledge: Use of handyman tools, including but not limited to power drills, reciprocating saw, angle grinder, multimeter for electricity

Competencies: Integrity and sound judgement Adaptability and flexibility Initiative Teamwork, cooperation, and willingness to get the job done Focus on client service

Abilities: Good interpersonal skills Ability to work well with others Ability to communicate clearly, orally Ability to take direction and follow instructions

Asset Qualifications:

  • Preference may be given to candidates who meet the Asset Qualifications. Where applicable, candidates must clearly demonstrate how they meet any asset qualifications.
  • Qualification in technical diploma or accredited apprenticeship program in plumbing and/or electricity
  • Knowledge of operating general office equipment
  • Ability to communicate in both written and spoken English

Operational Requirements:

  • Must be available for occasional duties outside normal working hours, i.e. evenings and weekends (overtime compensated by cash or time)
  • Must be able to work overtime on short notice on occasion
  • Ability and willingness to work in multiple locations around Hong Kong
  • Ability to do physical work such as moving furniture, appliances or lifting boxes, using ladders and lifts
  • Hold and maintain a valid Hong Kong SAR driver’s license with Class 1 & 2 with a safe driving record Pass a fitness for work assessment before job offer and each year during the employment period
  • Working hours are Monday to Friday, total of 44 hours per week

Conditions of Employment:

Conditions of employment must be met or complied with before being appointed to a particular position, and are to be maintained throughout the employment while being the incumbent of this position.

- Valid work authorization: Ability to obtain and hold a valid work authorization covering the entire employment period.

- Security screening: Obtain and maintain a Reliability Status (security level) which includes a criminal and credit background check from the Government of Canada covering the entire employment period.

Other conditions of employment:

The appointment of the successful candidate will be subject to obtaining Reliability Status (RS). To conduct the RS process, the successful candidate must submit the following documents on being selected by the Mission:

  • Completed Reliability Status Check forms (provided by the Consulate General);
  • Consent form for Reliability Status Check – for local criminal record check and Canada’s vetting/evaluation (provided by the Consulate General);
  • Proof of address from your bank or other recognized companies stating your name and your address;
  • Professional and education mark sheets or certificates;
  • Letters of reference;
  • Reference checks – from three referees;
  • HKID card or valid work permit;
  • Passport photo x 1;
  • Credit check results;
  • Other documents as required.

Any job offer is subject to receipt of satisfactory references. Proof of right to work and copies of educational and any specified professional qualifications will be required.
