Research Assistant in the Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences (Appointment for 12 months) [Ref. T/135/25]

We are looking for a motivated, enthusiastic and dedicated Research Assistant to join our vibrant team of veterinary researchers investigating infectious diseases of animals.

Project

A One-health Investigation into the Zoonotic Potential of Malassezia Yeasts from the Skin of Man's Best Friends, Canis Familiaris and Felis Catus

Duties

The appointee will work on projects related to susceptibility testing of various fungal organisms and play a critical role in executing this project.  Responsibilities include:

1. Benchtop laboratory: fungal agar production, culture analysis, DNA/RNA extraction, cPCR/qPCR, susceptibility testing via microdilution;

2. Data analysis: assist in data sequencing, phylogenetic analysis, and statistical analysis;

3. Sample curation: coordinate and maintain clinical sample banks, including sample processing and high-fidelity data entry;

4. Field work: provide support for field works;

5. Documentation and reporting: document and present findings and assist in preparing reports and publications; and

6. Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Requirements

A Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Science or related disciplines.  Excellent communication skills and a strong work ethic; ability to work independently and collaboratively; willingness and ability to respond to challenges and to acquire new skills are required. The ability to speak Cantonese and/or Putonghua is desirable.

Salary offered will be highly competitive, commensurate with qualifications and experience. Fringe benefits include leave, medical and dental consultations at the campus clinic.
