Museum Assistant

Liang Yi Museum is Hong Kong's largest private museum of decorative arts, founded in 2014. Our museum's USP is our philosophy of open display, encouraging dialogue and object handling for all our visitors. We focus on craftsmanship, heritage and design; across our permanent collections of classical Chinese furniture, European vanities, silver, and Japanese objects.

Position Ojective:

We are looking for an entry-level graduate who is interested in learning all aspects of working in a museum. This includes opportunities to work on curating exhibitions, design and installation of galleries, engaging with the education community to provide outreach with an innovative and recurring programme of lectures, workshops and panels.

Responsibilities include:

• Front-desk duties such as responding to inquiries and interacting with visitors
• Assisting the operations team to ensure smooth day-to-day running of museum
• Working with curatorial and collections team to provide administrative support for the museum's exhibitions and docent duties
• Participating in public relations, marketing and social media under direction of digital and print manager
• Assisting events manager at both internal and external events held at museum
• Engaging in research on museum's permanent collection, and proposing collaborations with other institutions
• Supervise interns as needed

Job requirements:

• Bachelor's degree, preferably in art history, museology, or related disciplines such as cultural studies or Chinese history
• Proficiency in English and Chinese (Cantonese or Mandarin), third language is a plus
• Have excellent organisation and administrative skills, including a high level of proficiency with basic computing such as Adobe, Excel, PowerPoint and social media platforms (Instagram, WeChat)
• Proven ability to multi-task and meet challenging deadlines
• Must be detail-oriented, flexible, proactive, and reliable
• 1-year relevant experience required, preferably in auction houses, art galleries, art publishing, or academia
