Cloud DBA Engineering Lead

The Cloud DBA Engineering Lead will have overall responsibility for supporting the database infrastructure from design through implementation, ongoing management and support. This role requires a deep understanding of key business areas to plan, develop and implement database solutions that align with corporate and service-specific objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead the database team in managing and supporting the database infrastructure, ensuring availability, capacity and 24/7 support for business systems.

• Design, manage and implement databases on MS SQL Server, MongoDB, MySQL, AWS RDS and Azure SQL.

• Provide leadership and mentorship to the database team, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional development.

• Manage a multi-region delivery team across Asia.

• Oversee database system maintenance, including troubleshooting, performance monitoring and tuning.

• Transform existing databases running on virtual machines to AWS/Azure native databases or MySQL.

• Optimize costs associated with MongoDB and Cloud DB consumption.

• Perform database server installation, patching and upgrades.

• Ensure compliance with IT governance and service management standards.

• Collaborate with other IT teams to support cloud adoption and implement critical IT projects.

• Develop and maintain standard operating procedures for database management.

• Manage database upgrades, automation and integration with DevOps practices.

• Implement and manage Kubernetes (K8S) for database deployment and orchestration.

• Develop and implement a strategic roadmap for the organization's database systems.

• Utilize generative AI features to enhance operations and cost optimization.

• Utilize AI and automation to improve database management processes.

• Define a full function of a database catalog for self-service, user requests and fulfilment.

Key Performance Indicators:

• Service Level Management: Ensure ongoing IT infrastructure services meet service targets and manage incidents effectively.

• Project Implementation: Successfully implement cloud infrastructure projects and support existing business units according to project plans and budgets.

• Compliance: Ensure IT systems and network infrastructure comply with security requirements.

• Leadership: Establish a seamless team operation committed to delivering excellent IT services.

Qualifications and Experience:

• Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or a related field.

• Over 8 years of relevant experience, with at least 3 years in a managerial role.

• Strong knowledge of MS SQL Server, MongoDB, AWS and Azure database technologies.

• ITIL foundation certification preferred.

• Excellent problem-solving, management and analytical skills.

• Strong communication, interpersonal and leadership skills.

• Experience in project management is a plus.

Technical Skills:

• In-depth knowledge of database administration, backup and recovery, performance monitoring and tuning and database encryption.

• Experience with various vendor products such as MS SQL Server, MongoDB, AWS RDS, Azure SQL PaaS, Azure SQL MI.

• Proficiency in data migration and scripting.

• Understanding of IT operations in an insurance company is preferred.

• Good command of written English and Chinese, fluent in spoken English.

• Able to work independently, self-motivated and willing to take challenges.

• Experience with database upgrades, automation, DevOps practices, Kubernetes (K8S), Kafka and managing a multi-region delivery team across Asia.

• Experience with DBmoto, IBM CDC and replication tools with AS400.

• Experience with Kafka and Data Lake.

Requirements:
