Part-time Veterinary Assistant (Appointment for 12 months) in the Centre for Applied One Health Research and Policy Advice [Ref. T/081/25]Projects
Provision of an effective swine extension service to local pig farms resulting in improved productivity and pig health for the benefit of human consumers.
The overall aim of this project is to support the pig farming industry and introduce advanced health management tools that will enhance pig production, product safety and quality in Hong Kong, supported by a production and health management plan as well as a clinical pig health service. There will be a specific emphasis on establishing a culture of prudent use of antimicrobials amongst pig farmers.
Duties

Provide support to the project team and swine veterinarians for the production and health management programme for pig farm clients in Hong Kong;

Assist in demonstration and training for farm workers, collection of clinical and environment samples, and collection of farm production data for building customer profile;

Manage the technical equipment, and associated system/consumables and inventory control;

Contribute to Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine education provided by the University;

Assist in preparation of project reports, documents and education materials for farmers; and

Perform any other duties as assigned.
Requirements
A Bachelor’s degree/Higher Diploma/Higher Certificate in Animal Science/Science or related disciplines, with at least 2 years’ working experience in related fields. Good command of written and spoken English and Chinese (including Putonghua); strong organisational skills; the abilities to work independently and within a team; possession of a valid Hong Kong driving license (Class 1 or 2) are required. Experience in handling and management of farm animals (especially pigs) is desirable. Experience in commercial clinic set-up/laboratory work associated with animals (including support for teaching and research) would be an advantage.

Salary offered will be highly competitive, commensurate with qualifications and experience.
