Position Summary We are seeking a skilled Robotics Engineer to lead the development of the workable prototype. This role focuses on creating a functional minimum viable product (MVP) tailored for curtain walls (glass walls). The prototype will demonstrate core mobility, adhesion, cleaning, and data capture capabilities on building surfaces. This is a hands-on, project-based position ideal for an engineer passionate about mechatronics and innovative hardware solutions. The role is full-time, with potential for remote flexibility, and reports directly to the project lead (Dr. Tsang).

Key Responsibilities

• Design, assemble, and test the mechanical structure of the prototype, including multi-legged grippers for walls.
• Integrate a cleaning module with rolling wheels.
• Incorporate a high-definition camera system for inspection.
• Develop and program the control system using microcontrollers (e.g., Arduino or STM32) for navigation, gait control (e.g., elephant-like diagonal movement), and sensor integration (IMUs, pressure sensors).
• Ensure safety features.
• Conduct iterative testing on simulated or real wall setups, optimizing for stability, efficiency, and data collection (e.g., capturing images for AI analysis).
• Collaborate with the team to refine designs based on the technical proposal, documenting progress, challenges, and iterations.
• Source components (e.g., lightweight materials like carbon fiber, batteries, sensors) within budget constraints and assemble the prototype from concept to functional demo.

Required Qualifications and Skills

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Robotics, or a related field.
• 2+ years of hands-on experience in building robotic prototypes, preferably mobile robots.
• Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks or Fusion 360) for mechanical design and 3D printing/prototyping.
• Strong programming skills in C/C++ or Python for embedded systems (e.g., Arduino IDE, ROS integration a plus).
• Experience with sensors and actuators, including cameras, vacuum systems, and motors/servos.
• Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to work independently on hardware-software integration.
• Preferred: Experience with hexapod or legged robots, or building maintenance tech.
