Information Technology Services Office (ITSO) is responsible for developing and managing the IT infrastructure of the University, and championing the wise use of IT for learning, research and administration activities.
The Network Systems Team at ITSO is responsible for the support and operations of the Campus Network Infrastructure. We are looking for a skilled and motivated Associate IT Specialist to join our team and provide comprehensive support for our data platform. This platform based on Elasticsearch, integrates data from various sources including IoT sensors, firewall logs, server logs, and network logs. The primary responsibilities for this role include system administration, patch updates, platform design and housekeeping to ensure optimal performance and reliability.
Responsibilities:
- Provide system administration for the data platform based on Elasticsearch, ensuring high availability, scalability and security.
- Perform patch updates and regular maintenance of systems to ensure optimal performance.
- Oversee the design, implementation and housekeeping of the data platform.
- Monitor and troubleshoot issues related to Elasticsearch, ensuring efficient data ingestion and query performance.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to integrate data from various sources including IoT sensors, firewall logs, server logs and network logs.
- Manage and optimize visualization tools like Grafana for data monitoring and reporting.
- Develop and maintain system documentation, including standard operating procedures and best practices.
Qualifications:
- Expertise in Unix (Ubuntu and CentOS) system administration. Experience in Windows system administration would be an advantage.
- Proficiency in programming skills in Python, PERL, SQL and JSON for data processing and scripting tasks.
- Hands-on experience with Elasticsearch, including cluster design, indexing and query optimization.
- Familiarity with Grafana for building dashboards and visualizations.
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering or a related field.
- Should have a good command of written and spoken English and Chinese and good analytical, problem-solving and communication skills. They should be able to work under pressure with passion and self-initiation.
(Duration: 2 years, renewable)
Starting salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Fringe benefits including annual leave, medical and dental benefits will be provided. A gratuity will be payable upon successful completion of contract.
