We are now looking for a suitable person to fill the following position in the Library:

Assistant Manager (at the rank of Assistant Librarian II) / Library Officer (Library Systems and Technology) (LIB) (Ref: 24000NN)

Major Duties and Responsibilities

The appointee will be responsible mainly for the following:

  • Assisting in overseeing daily operations of the Library Systems and Technology Section;
  • Assisting in planning, coordinating, and managing activities related to library systems and technology;
  • Assisting in formulating policies and procedures related to library systems and technology;
  • Administering the integrated library system, link resolver, Primo discovery portal, and other digital systems of the Library;
  • Developing and maintaining the Library’s application programmes and database systems;
  • Identifying, evaluating, and implementing new and emerging technologies to support Library services;
  • Serving on committees and task forces as appropriate;
  • Serving in Library Subject Teams for academic liaison and collection development; and
  • Performing any other duties as assigned by the University Librarian or his/her nominee.

Candidates

Candidates should possess the following qualifications, experience and competence:

  • A recognized degree;
  • At least 2 years’ relevant post-qualification experience;
  • Relevant post-qualification experience in library systems in an academic library is advantageous;
  • Knowledge and experience in administration of integrated library systems, OpenURL link resolver, discovery services, and library digital systems;
  • Hands-on experience in computer programming, web application development, and understanding of Linux server configurations and networking is advantageous;
  • Working knowledge of HTML, XML, Java, JavaScript, CSS, PHP, MySQL, etc. is preferred; and
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills in both English and Chinese.

Candidates with a professional library qualification (e.g. AALIA, ALA, MCLIP, MLIS or equivalent) may be appointed as Assistant Librarian II.

Applicants with less knowledge or experience may be considered for appointment as Library Officer.

Candidates may be invited to attend a written test.

An attractive remuneration package, including basic salary, an end-of-contract gratuity, and a discretionary incentive payment, where applicable, will be offered to the right candidates.
