Gallery Manager / Senior Curator /Art consultant/ Researcher/ Contemporary Artist Manager/ Antiquities Specialist to support the London, Seoul, Marrakech, and Hong Kong branches.


The Barakat Gallery is looking for outstanding, personable, bright, and interdisciplinary Gallery Manager / Senior Curator/ Art Researcher/ Art Consultant to join its team to perform curatorial, management, and client-related tasks.

Due to the nature of the business, personability and elegance are of the utmost importance.

A high number of candidates is foreseen; early applications are therefore encouraged.


Duties:

• Directing the management of the Gallery;

• Organizing exhibitions and curating catalogues;

• Supervising internal and external communications, including regular newsletters;

• Liaising with the Managers and staff of the other Barakat Galleries;

• Carrying out our research on selected holdings;

• Writing condition reports;

• Interacting with clients and answering enquiries;

• Supporting the Ownership of the Gallery.


Candidate specifications:

• Background in Archaeology, Ancient History, or Art History (with experience in Antiquities) with Postgraduate Studies. A Research Master’s Degree is mandatory as a minimum requirement.

candidates holding a Doctoral Degree in Archaeology, Ancient History, or Art History (with experience in Antiquities) are strongly preferred and warmly encouraged to apply;

• Proven track record of experience with Galleries, Museums, or Collections;

• Track record of management experience, with knowledge of logistics and of the national and

international legal framework of the antiquities market;

• A keen interest in Antiquities and Art, encompassing different civilizations and time periods;

• Attention to detail;

• Proven track record of working as part of a team.


You will be joining the Company at a pivotal moment, and you will be involved from day one in the management of one of the most important collections of antiquities in the world, with Galleries in London, Los Angeles, Seoul, and Hong Kong.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to

- Exhibition curation and management: Planning, developing, presenting, and managing smaller or larger-scale projects relative to exhibitions, actively liaising with internal and external collaborators.

- Compose and provide exhibition information and relative material to the other sections of the

collection as well as handling and responding to exhibition-related and artwork-related

enquiries.

- Collate publicity and catalogue material, including liaising with the exhibition team, art handlers, designers, photographers, art publishers, etc.

- Collection management: prepare condition reports and regularly undertake condition checks.

- Sales:facilitating the sales of the collection items in the gallery.

A wide range of day-to-day organizational and administrative tasks, to facilitate the daily running of the gallery, and to ensure an efficient and smooth running on a daily basis.

You will daily report and liaise with Mr. Barakat.

The ideal candidate will have successfully completed studies relevant to the History of Art and/or Art Management for Fine or Visual Arts. A superior academic qualification with an emphasis on original research in similar areas is also desirable.

You must have a proven track record of working experience in a museum or art gallery in a similar role, both in London as well as abroad.

You should be fluent (oral and written) in English and have knowledge of other languages (European and Asian) to a working proficiency is also desirable.

You must have great communication and negotiation skills, you must be supremely able to build and maintain relationships as well as enjoy working effectively and evolving within a team.  Excellent computer skills, including Google Suite and Microsoft Office is necessary. A good level of proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign etc.) is also a bonus.

A genuine interest in ancient art, motivation, and creative flair, with an attention to detail, are a must.

Artist Manager

Barakat Gallery seeks a full-time Artist Manager to provide support to Mr. Fayez Barakat in his artistic production.

You will be involved in the day-to-day operations of the gallery, helping to execute projects and manage collections, and answering to the Gallery Manager. You should have meticulous attention to detail, the ability to effectively multitask, and a keen awareness of time sensitivity. Due to the nature of the business, impeccable personability, professionalism, and elegance are of the utmost importance.

You will be joining the Company at a pivotal moment and will be involved from day one in the management of the paintings by an accomplished artist.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to

- Handling the agenda of Mr. Barakat and providing secretarial support.

- Curating the indexing and cataloguing of the paintings of Fayez Barakat.

- Curating catalogues raisonnés.

- Exhibition curation and management: Planning, developing, presenting, and managing smaller or larger-scale projects relative to exhibitions, actively liaising with internal and

external collaborators.

- Compose and provide exhibition information and relative material to the other sections of the collection, as well as handling and responding to exhibition-related and artwork-related enquiries.

- Collate publicity and catalogue material, including liaising with the exhibition team, art

handlers, designers, photographers, art publishers, etc.

- Collection management: prepare condition reports and regularly undertake condition checks.
