We are now looking for a suitable person to fill the following position in the School of Arts and Social Sciences:


Freelance Senior Instructor (erhu) (Project-Chinese Music Programme) (A&SS) (Ref: 25001YC)


The School of Arts and Social Sciences of Hong Kong Metropolitan University is now looking for a Freelance Senior Instructor (erhu) in the Chinese Music Programme under Quality Enhancement Support Scheme:


Major Duties and Responsibilities

The Freelance Senior Instructor in erhu will be responsible for providing high-quality instruction in erhu courses, with a primary focus on group lessons. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with the Artistic Director and Music Director to advance the promotion and appreciation of Chinese music within the Metropolitan University community. The appointee will be responsible mainly for the following:

  • The instructor is expected to play a central role in cultivating students' enthusiasm for Chinese music while fostering their sense of belonging within the university community.
  • The instructor will be responsible for tailoring teaching methodologies and selecting suitable instructional materials to effectively meet the diverse needs of students with varying levels of proficiency.
  • The instructor is anticipated to exhibit a steadfast dedication to excellence in teaching, as well as to promoting students' musical growth and active participation.


Candidates

Candidates are expected to possess the following:

  • The applicant should have a specialization in erhu performance, with a master’s degree or an equivalent qualification in a related discipline.
  • Applicants should have at least 10 years of experience teaching the relevant instrument;
  • Experience working with students in an educational or community setting is highly desirable;
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills at a high level;
  • The successful candidates will be required to undergo Sexual Conviction Record Check (SCRC).


Terms and Conditions for Appointment

A successful candidate will be appointed on a freelance basis as a senior instructor for the Chinese Music Programme, on a one-year contract, with the possibility of renewal based on good performance and mutual agreement.
