English Teacher (Elementary, Middle & High School) Full-Time • Two-Year Contract

THE ROLE

We are seeking an accomplished English Teacher to work across our Middle and High School programmes. The ideal candidate will be a skilled literacy educator with leadership potential, capable of supporting diverse learners from emergent English language learners to native speakers pursuing advanced literary studies. This position offers significant opportunities for curriculum leadership and professional growth within our English department.

Key Responsibilities:

Teaching & Learning

·       Design and deliver rigorous, differentiated English curriculum across multiple grade levels and proficiency bands

·       Demonstrate expertise in both English Language Arts and English as an Additional Language (EAL) methodologies

·       Develop and implement leveled instruction that challenges advanced learners while supporting students with emerging English proficiency

·       Foster critical thinking, analytical writing, creative expression, and sophisticated literary analysis

·       Utilize workshop models, inquiry-based approaches, and reader's/writer's workshop frameworks

·       Employ formative and summative assessments to inform differentiated instruction and track student progress across proficiency levels

Curriculum Leadership & EAL Coordination

·       Provide guidance and mentorship to colleagues regarding EAL best practices and differentiation strategies

·       Contribute to the development and refinement of English curriculum and assessment frameworks

·       Collaborate with teachers to integrate literacy across the curriculum

·       Support the implementation of leveled literacy interventions and enrichment programmes

·       Lead or contribute to department initiatives and curriculum review processes

Collaboration & Professional Development

·       Work collaboratively with colleagues on vertical alignment, unit planning, and instructional design across Middle and High School

·       Participate actively in professional learning communities and departmental meetings

·       Engage in regular supervision and reflective practice with school leadership

·       Mentor colleagues in differentiated instruction and EAL strategies

Community & Wellbeing

·       Cultivate inclusive, literacy-rich learning environments where all students develop confidence as communicators

·       Integrate educational technology effectively to enhance language acquisition and literary engagement

·       Maintain current knowledge of best practices in English language teaching and EAL pedagogy

·       Uphold and adhere to the school's safeguarding policies and procedures


QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS

Essential:

·       Master's degree in English Education, TESOL, Applied Linguistics, English Literature, or related field

·       Valid teaching certification/license

·       Minimum four years of teaching experience in English/English Language Arts at secondary level

·       Demonstrated expertise in both English Language Arts and EAL/ESL instruction

·       Proven ability to differentiate instruction across a wide range of language proficiency levels (beginner EAL to advanced native speakers)

·       Deep understanding of literacy development, language acquisition theory, and progressive education principles

·       Strong curriculum development and assessment design skills

·       Excellent interpersonal, communication, and collaborative skills

Highly Desirable:

·       Previous leadership experience (Head of Department, Curriculum Coordinator, Team Leader, or mentor teacher)

·       Experience teaching across Middle and High School levels (Grades 6-12)

·       Qualifications or significant experience in Drama/Theatre Arts education

·       Specialized EAL/ESL certification (CELTA, DELTA, TESOL certificate, or equivalent)

·       Experience working with emergent bilingual learners

·       Familiarity with Common Core State Standards for English Language Arts

·       Experience with advanced placement or honors-level English courses

·       Bilingual capability (English/Mandarin) for family communication and student support

·       Experience integrating interdisciplinary and Project-Based Learning (PBL) approaches

·       Knowledge of literacy intervention programmes and advanced enrichment strategies
