Job Description
The postholder will facilitate transdisciplinary learning through art, supporting pupils' conceptual understanding while developing their creative expression, critical thinking, and international-mindedness within the PYP framework. The postholder must have the flexibility and experience to teach across the PYP year groups. The ability to offer another subject in addition will be an advantage. As a Malvern College teacher, the postholder will play a full role in the school's curricular, co-curricular and pastoral programmes.
Key Responsibilities Overview
- Take responsibility for primary Art classes, supporting, nurturing and taking a genuine interest in the holistic development of all children in that class;
- Work closely with the PYP Coordinator, Prep Level Leaders and PYP colleagues to ensure the effective delivery of the PYP and to design and implement a relevant, challenging and rigorous curriculum;
- Design art experiences that connect to Units of Inquiry and support central ideas through transdisciplinary learning;
- Collaborate with classroom teachers to integrate art across the curriculum and real-world contexts;
- Plan and deliver lessons, ensuring attention is given to appropriate differentiation and pupil voice in artistic decision-making;
- Facilitate learning through PYP key concepts to develop conceptual understanding and foster IB Learner Profile attributes, including creativity, appreciation, and empathy, through artistic exploration;
- Create inquiry-based classrooms that develop critical thinking skills, knowledge and a range of skills within an environment based on trust and respect;
- Encourage pupil agency and provide opportunities for pupils to pursue individual artistic interests and initiate action through art projects;
- Document and celebrate pupil learning journeys through digital learning portfolios and exhibitions; and
Write formal reports using the school’s guidelines on a termly basis
Key Requirements
- Minimum Bachelor’s Degree in Art;
- A recognised teaching qualification for the required age range (e.g. B.Ed., PGCE);
- Minimum two years’ teaching experience in primary years education;
- Previous experience of teaching the IB PYP is preferred, although outstanding candidates without prior IB experience will be considered; and
- An appreciation of the IB Philosophy is required
Contract Type: Full-time, two years
Start date: August 2026
