Secondary EAL Teacher

Support for students:

• Support students’ learning of English as an additional and academic language, tailoring support to match the learner’s needs
• Identify and remove barriers to students’ learning
• Offer support by providing pull-out and/or push-in sessions (working collaboratively with the homeroom/subject teacher)
• Assess students’ progress and support them in reviewing their own learning
• Promote students’ well-being and resilience.

Support for the EAL department:

• Help with administrative tasks such as uploading data, creating documents to support learners and teachers;
• Contribute to maintaining student records and keep a record of the support given
• Communicate with parents about their child’s progress and any work that needs to be completed
• Liaise/communicate directly with homeroom/subject teachers and attend planning meetings
• Collaborate on planning for teaching small groups and individuals
• Carry out other job duties assigned by the department/school.

Qualifications and Skills:

• Hold a Bachelor Degree or above in relevant disciplines, with professional qualifications in education is preferred
• Possess experience in working with EAL students, both in a class setting and in small groups
• Be able to work independently
• Be able to collaborate with the EAL team and the homeroom/subject teachers
• Be flexible and willing to work both in the junior and senior secondary level
• Possess strong English communication and written skills, with ability to read and write in Chinese is an advantage
