Job Description

The Learning Support and PE Teacher is required to possess a teaching degree or a degree in their specialist area with an additional teaching qualification (such as a PGCE or equivalent). Previous Learning Support or PE teaching experience would be essential. On top of this, experience in teaching Art, IT, or Music lessons would be desirable but is not essential.

 

Main Responsibilities

  1. Deliver effective sessions for either individuals or small groups of pupils within, or outside the class

  2. Develop Individualised Learning Plan (ILP) for students and prepare lessons and specific teaching materials to deliver on ILP

  3. Develop and adapt conventional teaching methods to meet the individual needs of pupils

  4. Collaborate with the classroom teachers and the Learning Support teachers to define appropriate activities for the pupils in relation to the curriculum

  5. Liaise with parents, external agencies and a range of other professionals, such as speech and language therapists and educational psychologists

  6. Provide a clear and constructive feedback to students and their parents/caregivers

  7. Carry out administrative tasks, including updating and maintaining records of pupils’ progress

  8. Deliver PE and Single Subject lessons, under the guidance of the Single Subject teachers, to students aged 6-14 years old

  9. Develop positive relationships with teachers, parents and students within the IMS community, as well as potential parents

  10. Promote a safe and inclusive environment that caters for the physical, social and mental wellbeing of students within your care

  11. Follow up on concerns regarding any IMS student, with their classroom teacher and line manager

  12. Supervise students during recess, ensuring a safe and positive environment.

  13. Contribute to whole school programmes, events, and initiatives such as outdoor educational experiences, school performances, and in house Professional Development for teachers

  14. Run school sports teams and/or Extra Curricular Activities (ECAs) for students to attend after regular school hours, when required

 

Requirements

  1. Possess a teaching degree or regular degree with additional teaching qualification on top

  2. One of the following criteria must be met to be considered for the position;

  • SEN qualification or EAL/TESOL Certificate and 2+ years teaching experience within a recognised educational organisation experience

  • 2+ years of PE teaching or sports coaching experience

  1. IT, Music or Art teaching experience would be beneficial

  2. Football and/or basketball coaching experience would be beneficial

  3. At least 2 years experience within and educational setting, ideally teaching PE

  4. Proficient in English

  5. Team player who’s willing to collaborate with colleagues and support areas outside of their direct teaching field and has the initiative required to work in an International School environment.

  6. Strong interpersonal and communication skills
