Laboratory Manager

Designation: Laboratory Manager

Job Scope: Looking for a dynamic Lab Manager to oversee and lead daily operations of both our Cord Blood Banking and Diagnostic Laboratory. This role is critical in ensuring operational excellence, quality compliance, and team leadership within a highly regulated biomedical environment.

Key Requirements:

• Bachelor’s in Medical Laboratory Science or equivalent
• Certified & Practicing Medical Laboratory Technologist (Part I – Hong Kong) (mandatory)
• Minimum 5 years of lab experience, including 2+ years in a supervisory/managerial role
• Hands-on experience in:
• Cord blood and cord lining processing - preferred
• Lab equipment maintenance and validations
• CAP/AABB accreditation and quality compliance - preferred
• Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills
• Must be Hepatitis B immunized

Core Responsibilities:

Laboratory Operations & Quality

• Oversee day-to-day lab operations across banking and diagnostics
• Plan budgets and manage capacity
• Manage equipment, consumables, and reagent supply
• Maintain compliance with FACT, CAP, AABB , and other regulatory standards
• Ensure process and equipment validations are performed as needed
• Develop and monitor department quality objectives
• Lead and support internal and external lab audits
• Manage deviations, implement CAPAs, and ensure SOP adherence

Team Leadership & Development

• Train, motivate, and manage laboratory staff
• Allocate man-hours and prioritize workloads
• Conduct competency testing and continuous development of team

Technical & Client Responsibilities

• Perform/oversee processing and testing of cord blood, cord lining, maternal and urinary samples
• Perform and/or review client reports based on biochemical urine analysis (GC/MS)
• Maintain accuracy and timeliness of all lab reports
• Interface with doctors and clients for special cases or escalations
• Work closely with Medical Directors on issues requiring clinical oversight

Banking Division Focus

• Ensure timely processing of cord blood units and linings
• Perform cord blood/lining processing when required
• Lead lab proficiency testing and quality control

Diagnostic Division Focus

• Ensure timely processing and testing of urine samples
• Exercise rigorous quality control over tests and results
• Review and approve client reports for biochemical urinary analyses
