The Faculty of Social Science invites applications for a new post at Associate Professor/ Assistant Professor rank. The appointee will take up duties as the inaugural Director of the new undergraduate BSSc programme in Diplomacy and International Studies. This innovative programme aims at nurturing high-level, interdisciplinary talents who are proficient in both Chinese and Western cultures and are prepared to excel in international relations, international organizations and diplomatic arenas. With a particular focus on China’s role in global governance, the programme fosters students’ development of a deep understanding of the historical, cultural, and political dimensions of China’s engagement in international affairs. The Faculty is seeking a visionary leader with commitment to teaching, study programme management, and development of this distinctive new initiative.

The appointee will be responsible for

(a)    steering the development and continuous improvement of the new undergraduate programme;

(b)    fostering interdisciplinary collaborations to ensure research and teaching developments meet the highest international standards;

(c)    providing leadership and strategic direction in alignment with the academic missions of CUHK and the participating Faculties; and

(d)    enhancing global connections in the field of international studies and diplomacy.

Applicants are expected to have:

(i)     a PhD degree in International Relations/International Law or related disciplines;

(ii)   a distinguished record of academic achievements and international recognition in research, scholarship

and teaching;

(iii)  a track record of academic administrative experience in leadership positions, preferably in prominent research-intensive institutions;

(iv)  demonstrated ability to foster interdisciplinary collaboration; and

(v)    strong international network and experience in study programme development.

Appointment will normally be made on contract basis for up to three years initially, targeted to start in January 2026 or as soon as practicable thereafter, which subject to performance, funding availability, and mutual agreement, may lead to longer-term appointment or substantiation (tenure) later.

Review of applications will commence from October 2025 on an ongoing basis. Applications will be considered until the post is filled.
