Job Purpose

The Content Coordinator is responsible for coordinating the effective public communication initiative of the medical humanitarian action of Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) and humanitarian concerns to relevant audiences through the development and production of editorial content aligned to the MSF Hong Kong content strategy.

The Content Coordinator takes care of the production procedures and content preparation of print and digital editorial content, including MSF Hong Kong primary publications and ensures adaptation of various movement-wide content packages appropriate to local audiences, as well as the creation of original content packages aligned to communication strategy. This position will also help the Senior Officer (Editor) with the review of daily contents from other external-facing departments, and act as a primary cover for the Digital Officer when they are out of office.


Main Duties and Responsibilities

MSF Hong Kong Publications: Manages the production workflow of Traditional Chinese and English editions of primary MSF Hong Kong printed and digital publications - MSF HK Activity Report (annual) and Borderline Magazine (two issues per year), as well as other regular curated contents (including but not limited to newsletters, staff interview videos and other thematic publications), ensuring accuracy, consistency, high quality and alignment with MSF identity traits and narratives.

  • Proposes and develop content frameworks, write-ups and briefs for service providers, collect comments and optimise content for final outputs
  • Curates photos, graphics and audio/video effects, and ensuring these materials help MSF get the message across, while comply with MSF visual storytelling guidelines (with focuses on safeguarding and respect)
  • Coordinates with internal teams and external stakeholders such as design agencies, printers, production houses and freelancers to ensure quality publications are delivered on time
  • Develops and adapts dissemination strategy for MSF Hong Kong primary publications linked to relevant target audiences and distribution channels

Publication Strategy: Contributes to the optimisation of MSF Hong Kong’s publications (not limited to printed ones) strategy and ensures its implementation to achieve the overall communications objectives and organisational goals, in coordination with key relevant departments such as Field HR, Fundraising, Finance

Content Adaptation:

  • Leads the process of adaptation of key reports and publications from the MSF movement, including but not limited to emergency response accountability reports, temoignage and advocacy reports on various priority contexts
  • Translate, adapt and repackage communications materials released by other MSF offices to ensure relevance and relatability for Hong Kong audiences

Original Content production:

  • Develops original MSF Hong Kong newsletter and content packages (including but not limited to social media content and webpages) to keep regular engagement with supporters and support specific communications strategies
  • Innovates new content formats, designs and approaches that capitalise on trends, local/global hot topics as well as exploring new publishing tools to ensure MSF HK remains relevant and engaging to younger audiences
  • Supports the Digital Unit to identify possible digital content production opportunities and the strategic content development

Dissemination and monitoring:

  • Works closely with the Editorial & Publishing Manager to disseminate reports, Borderline Magazine and other curated contents to various stakeholders and channels for maximum impact, in coordination with External Communications Team and other relevant departments
  • Monitor and track the effectiveness of dissemination plans linked to MSF Hong Kong content and evaluate views/visits/engagements via the MSF Hong Kong website and social media channels with the support of the Digital Unit.

Budget management: Ensures effective management of the publications budget, in consultation with Editorial & Publishing Manager and the Fundraising Department

Coordination, content review & service provider management

  • Coordinates with relevant departments and teams across the region to collect information for content development
  • Supports the review and proofreading of communications materials by the external-facing departments
  • Identify, recruit and maintain a network of diverse freelance content producers (writers, editors, designers, digital content producers/agencies etc.) to support the content production needs of Communications and other Departments

Others

  • Support the development of other editorial content as required, and act as a primary cover for Digital Officer in the Communications team
  • Provide editorial support as needed
  • Contribute to other communications activities and objectives as required

The Ideal Candidate

  • Degree or tertiary qualification in Communications, Journalism or related field
  • At least four years of relevant experience in the editorial and publications field, preferably within the communications department of a private, public or not-for-profit organisation
  • Outstanding writing and good editing skills in Chinese and English
  • Capacity to comb through and assimilate information of complex contexts, thus distill and present content in a smooth and easy-understanding flow for a lay audience
  • An eye for unique perspectives to present topics that are not always of the biggest public interest
  • Solid experience in workflow coordination and project management
  • Uphold high quality standard and attention to details
  • Experience in producing Annual Reports and any other printed publications strongly preferred
  • Experience in developing publications for online audience and creative design are advantage
  • Strong understanding of youth popular culture and content consumption habits will be an edge
  • Proven ability to work under pressure and manage competing priorities and deadlines
  • Strong interpersonal skills with proven ability to liaise with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders
  • Proficient in desktop publishing/visual content tools, i.e. Canva, Adobe Creative Suite
  • Commitment to the aims and principles of MSF

MSF Hong Kong will offer a remuneration package of 12 months basic salary benchmarked in INGO with no discretionary bonus.
