SCHOOL COUNSELLOR (ENGLISH INTERNATIONAL STREAM)

The German Swiss International School (GSIS) is one of Hong Kong's leading international schools providing quality, holistic education to a multinational student body of approximately 1300 students and 240 faculty and staff. The school is organised into two Streams, German and English leading to qualifications in the German International Abitur and I/GCSE & IBDP respectively. We are inviting applications for the following position commencing in August 2025.

SCHOOL COUNSELLOR (7:30AM start)

The school counsellor’s task entails supporting the students, parents, and staff of the GSIS English Secondary Department (English International Stream). This is achieved through individual and small group counselling as well as supporting classroom teaching and workshops. The incumbent will work with the school’s counselling team to provide a comprehensive school counselling programme that addresses the personal and social development of all students. The Counsellor will work towards establishing a healthy working environment and be ready to mediate, provide advice and guidance to students, legal guardians and faculty staff during difficult times.

What is required and what we’re looking for

• Relevant degree in Counselling or Social work required, Masters preferred
• Experience of applied counselling strategies and knowledgeable of a variety of counselling approaches and techniques suitable to adolescents, such as CBT, DBT, ACT and REBT.
• Understanding contemporary challenges for students from 11 to 18
• Recent school experience preferred
• Experience in the development and implementation of school-wide initiatives an advantage
• Positive, proactive and independent work ethic
• Understanding of common Child Protection and Safeguarding procedures within a school setting
• Ability to work collaboratively with key stakeholders
• Excellent English speaker with sound written and oral communication skills (native speaker level)
• Excellent active listening and communication skills
• Culturally sensitive, tolerant and patient
