About the Role
Kellett School is seeking to appoint a highly motivated, experienced and well qualified Teacher of Business Studies (Maternity Cover)for our Senior School.
This is an exciting opportunity to plan and teach well-structured lessons, adapt teaching to respond to the strengths and needs of all pupils, ensuring very high expectations are maintained for individual student attainment and progress.
Applications are invited from colleagues with a minimum of two years full time teaching experience in high achieving schools who can demonstrate a proven record of outstanding teaching and learning and secure understanding of the GCSE/IGCSE and A levels.
Duration of Contract:24th Nov 2025 - 8th May 2026

Key duties and responsibilities
Plan and teach well-structured lessons
- Teach Business Studies at GCSE / A’ Level
- Have a secure knowledge of the relevant subject(s) and curriculum areas, foster and maintain pupils’ interest in the subject, and address misunderstandings
- Impart knowledge and develop understanding through effective use of lesson time
- Promote a love of learning and children’s intellectual curiosity
- Set homework and plan other out-of-class activities to consolidate and extend the knowledge and understanding pupils have acquired
- Reflect systematically on the effectiveness of your lessons and approaches to teaching
- Contribute to the design and provision of an engaging curriculum within the relevant subject area(s)
- Provide a safe, secure and stimulating environment
- Valuing the students’ work in a variety of ways, including the presentation / publication / display of work for as wide an audience as possible
- Ensure the effective/efficient deployment of classroom support
Adapt teaching to respond to the strengths and needs of all pupils
- Know when and how to differentiate appropriately, using approaches which enable pupils to be taught effectively
- Have a secure understanding of how a range of factors can inhibit pupils’ ability to learn, and how best to overcome these
- Demonstrate an awareness of the physical, social and intellectual development of children, and know how to adapt teaching to support pupils’ education at different stages of development
- Have a clear understanding of the needs of all pupils, including those with special educational needs; those of high ability; those with English as an additional language; those with disabilities; and be able to use and evaluate distinctive teaching approaches to engage and support them
Make accurate and productive use of assessment
- Know and understand how to assess the relevant subject and curriculum areas, including statutory assessment requirements
- Make use of formative and summative assessment to secure pupils’ progress
- Use relevant data to monitor progress, set targets, and plan subsequent lessons
- Give pupils regular feedback, both orally and through accurate marking, and encourage pupils to respond to the feedback
GENERAL
- Inspire, challenge, support and empower students and colleagues towards excellence
- Establish good working relationships across the school community
- Work as part of a team, attend regular meetings and provide a major input into departmental development
- Have excellent communication in English (written and spoken)
- Communicate effectively with the parents as appropriate
- Contribute to the Department Improvement Plan as required
- Commit to a Foundation to Year 13 school philosophy with the highest levels of pastoral care
- Respond positively and proactively to the challenges of an established yet rapidly developing school
- Participate in the school’s weekly enrichment programme
- Contribute to the wider life of the school
- Be punctual to lessons at all times
- Take part in marketing and liaison activities such as Open Evenings and Parent Conferences
- Maintain appropriate records and provide relevant accurate and up to date information for school information systems as required
- Observe all rules on Health and Safety
- Adhere to the staff Code of Conduct
- Comply with any reasonable request from a manager to undertake work of a similar level that is not specified in this job description
PASTORAL SYSTEM
- Take responsibility for a tutor group if required
- Promote the general progress and well-being of individual students and of the Tutor group as a whole
- Liaise with Pastoral Leaders to ensure the implementation of the school’s Pastoral and House System
- Register students, accompany them to assemblies; facilitate House events and encourage their full attendance at all lessons and their participation in other aspects of school life
- Evaluate and monitor the progress of students and keep up-to-date student records as may be required
- Contribute to the preparation of Support and Behaviour Plans and other reports as required
- Alert the appropriate staff to problems experienced by students
- Follow the school’s behaviour for learning policy, with the support of the Head of Department and/or Head of Year
CONTINUING PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
- Participate in, and demonstrate continuous commitment to the annual review, quality assurance and appraisal cycles
- Participate in school-wide INSET initiatives
- Seek opportunities that may arise from the professional development process, including pathways to higher qualifications
- Take full responsibility for areas that may be reviewed in a full school audit or an inspection

Essential:
- A good honours degree in relevant subject or equivalent
- A recognised teaching qualification
- Experience of teaching Business Studies (GCSE/A-Levels) successfully
- Two or more years of experience in teaching
- Excellent subject knowledge and passion for subject
