The School of Optometry is one of the five academic units in the Faculty of Health and Social Sciences. The School is the sole provider of an Honours Undergraduate Programme in Optometry, Master of Science in Vision Science and Innovation, Doctor of Optometry and Doctor of Health Sciences (Optometry) Programme in Hong Kong.  The five-year Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Optometry is a registrable qualification with the Hong Kong Government.

With the Centre for Myopia Research (https://www.polyu.edu.hk/so/research/research-centres-and-laboratories/centre-for-myopia-research/), the Research Centre for SHARP Vision (https://www.polyu.edu.hk/rcsv), and the Centre for Eye and Vision Research (https://cevr.hk), which is a research collaboration between PolyU and the University of Waterloo, our clinical research is vibrant in the areas of myopia management, vision rehabilitation, children vision and binocular vision, specialty contact lens, and dry eye management. Duties 

The appointee will be required to: 

(a)    teach undergraduate and postgraduate courses and supervise students in their clinical training;

(b)    provide leadership to curriculum development and quality improvement of local and overseas clinical education;

(c)    provide mentorship to teaching/clinical staff in teaching and clinical practice;

(d)    coordinate clinical education of students and develop specialty clinical training programmes to enhance students’ expertise in specific areas;

(e)    provide support for student development, including mentoring, fostering personal and professional growth;

(f)    support the School in adopting best practices in teaching and learning, fostering a collaborative and supportive teaching environment and promoting professional development;

(g)    carry out administrative duties related to clinical education and programme operation; and

(h)    perform any other duties as assigned by the Head of School or his/her delegates.

Qualifications 

Applicants should have: 

(a)    a PhD or professional doctorate degree in Optometry, or a related discipline, plus not less than six years of post-qualification/post-registration experience in Optometry;

(b)    a qualification registrable with the Optometrists Board of the HKSAR;

(c)    significant contribution to optometry education innovations and quality improvement initiatives;

(d)    demonstrated academic management and leadership capabilities; and

(e)    good interpersonal and communication skills.

Conditions of Service

A highly competitive remuneration package will be offered.  Initial appointment will be on a fixed-term gratuity-bearing contract.  Re-engagement thereafter is subject to mutual agreement.
