Harrow International School Hong Kong is the first international boarding and day school in Hong Kong. Job Title: Head of Biology (One Year Contract)

Contract Period:  January to December 2026

Specific aims and key responsibilities:

• Lead and manage the Biology Department to ensure high standards of teaching, learning, and academic achievement.
• Design, review, and implement schemes of work and assessment methods that support student progress.
• Inspire students with a passion for Biology through engaging lessons and a culture of academic enquiry.
• Organise and deliver enrichment activities that extend learning beyond the classroom.
• Support departmental administration, including planning, reporting, and resource management.
• Observe teaching practices within the department and provide constructive feedback for professional growth.
• Monitor student performance, maintain accurate records, and implement interventions where needed.
• Promote positive behaviour and high expectations in Biology lessons, supporting teachers with classroom management.
• Plan and lead educational trips and activities, ensuring compliance with school policies and safety standards.
• Contribute to the wider school community through pastoral care, co-curricular involvement, and professional development.

Requirements

• A good Honours degree in Biology or a closely related subject, along with a recognised postgraduate teaching qualification (including QTS).
• Proven experience as an excellent classroom teacher, with a strong track record of delivering high academic outcomes.
• Demonstrated leadership experience within an academic department, with the ability to inspire and support colleagues.
• Strong communication, organisational, and IT skills, with the ability to manage departmental responsibilities effectively.
• A genuine passion for Biology and commitment to innovative teaching practices that engage and challenge students.
• A clear understanding of safeguarding responsibilities and a commitment to the wellbeing and holistic development of pupils.
