The Faculty of Engineering of The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) is now seeking an outstanding candidate in the most advanced areas of embodied AI. Candidates should have a strong background in robotics and artificial intelligence, with expertise in one or more of the following areas:
- Robotic Manipulation: Developing robots capable of performing complex manipulation tasks with high precision and efficiency.
- Control and Navigation: Designing systems to regulate robots' motion and behavior, ensuring stability, precision, and adaptability in dynamic environments, including navigation in complex spaces.
- Perception and Sensing: Leveraging diverse sensors and advanced perception techniques to interpret and interact with the physical world effectively.
- Generative Models and Simulation: Applying generative AI for digital asset generation, world modeling, or physics-based simulation to enable realistic training and operation of embodied agents.
- Multi-Agent Systems: Building collaborative robotic systems that can communicate, coordinate, and achieve shared goals.
- Robot Learning and Reinforcement Learning: Advancing algorithms for robotic learning, including reinforcement learning, to enable adaptive and intelligent behavior in real-world scenarios.
Applicants should have (i) a Ph.D. in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related discipline; (ii) a strong research track record demonstrated by high-impact publications, patents, or other scholarly outputs; (iii) substantial experience (research, development, or both) in embodied AI and/or software frameworks for state-of-the-art embodied AI systems; (iv) demonstrated ability to engage in collaborative and cross-disciplinary research and to mentor graduate students; and (v) potential or proven ability to obtain external research funding.
Responsibilities
The appointee will be expected to (a) teach undergraduate and graduate courses in AI, and its applications in respective scientific fields; (b) establish an independent, externally funded research program in embodied AI; (c) supervise and mentor graduate students; and (d) collaborate with faculty members within CUHK and externally to advance research in embodied AI.
Appointment(s) will normally be made on contract basis for up to three years initially, which, subject to mutual agreement, may lead to longer-term appointment(s) or substantiation later.
