Job Description

We are now looking for a suitable person to fill the following position in the Library:

Temporary Library Assistant (several posts) (LIB) (Ref: 250016T)

Major Duties and Responsibilities

The appointee will be responsible mainly for the following:

  • Assisting in creating, enhancing and maintaining bibliographic, item and authority records for library materials in various formats;
  • Assisting in collecting relevant data and information for collection development and management to prepare reports to support management decisions;
  • Assisting in the acquisition and subscription of library materials;
  • Assisting in the management of collection, stack, overall physical space and inventory;
  • Assisting in promoting the use of library services and resources;
  • Handling library user enquiries and liaising with internal and external parties;
  • Performing counter and shift duties during weekdays, weekends and public holidays; and
  • Performing any other duties as ssigned by the University Librarian or his/her nominee(s).

Candidates

Candidates should possess the following qualifications, experience and competence:

  • At least 5 subjects with Level 2 in HKDSE or equivalent, including English & Chinese Languages and Mathematics (holder of the Certificate of Library Assistant will be an advantage);
  • Good computer skills including English and Chinese word-processing and spreadsheet applications;
  • Good command of written and spoken English and Chinese (preferably including Putonghua);
  • Customer-oriented, strong interpersonal skills, self-motivated with sense of responsibility; and
  • Experience in and knowledge of library related work is preferred.

Terms and Conditions for Appointment

Successful candidate will be appointed on a temporary full-time contract for the employment term of 3 months.  Benefits will be provided in accordance with the statutory provisions.
