The Learning Support/Individual Learning Needs Teacher is responsible for assessing students' learning needs, developing and implementing individualised support plans, and monitoring the effectiveness of interventions within an elementary Montessori school environment. The teacher will work closely with the lead classroom teachers to identify areas where students may require additional support, and then collaborate to provide the necessary assistance and track progress.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Screen and assess students referred for potential learning differences or difficulties, using a variety of observation, interview, and standardised assessment tools
Analyse assessment data to identify students' unique strengths, challenges, and learning styles
Develop individualised learning plans that outline appropriate accommodations, modifications, and research-based instructional strategies
Determine the most suitable service delivery model for each student, whether that is push-in support within the Montessori classroom or pull-out sessions in a dedicated learning support space
Provide direct, specialised instruction to students, utilising Orton-Gillingham, multisensory, and other evidence-based methods for teaching reading, writing, and other academic skills
Monitor student progress and adjust instructional techniques, support levels, and service delivery models as needed
Collaborate regularly with lead classroom teachers to integrate learning support strategies into the Montessori curriculum and ensure a cohesive, inclusive learning environment
Communicate regularly with parents/guardians regarding student progress, learning goals, and recommended home-based support strategies
Recommend formal evaluations by qualified professionals (e.g., educational psychologists, diagnosticians) when there is a suspected disability or the need for more comprehensive

Maintain detailed records of student assessments, progress, and interventions
Participate in professional development, team meetings, and other school-wide initiatives as required
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in education, special education, or a related field
2-3 years of teaching experience within a recognised educational organisation
Valid teaching certification, with an endorsement or specialised training in special education, dyslexia, or learning disabilities
Orton-Gillingham or other structured literacy training and experience
Strong knowledge of elementary-level academic content, Montessori pedagogy, and child development
Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills
