Design Manager, Design Delivery APAC

The role requires a candidate with experience in managing the Data Centre design to meet reliability and availability requirement, efficiency & sustainability benchmark (PUE & WUE), international best practices, regulatory requirement, safety in design, cost target and speed to market.

Key Responsibilities

He/She is accountable for the design outcome of multiple & projects in parallel (both greenfield and fit out), within budget and program. The project will span across regional metros.

This role must develop design brief & key metrics to ensure consistency in design quality and requirements. As such, he/she holds consultant and professional team accountable for meeting the project design intent and deliverables.

He/ She will manage a consortium of consultant and professional team which includes but not limited to town planner, architect, civil & structural engineer, mechanical and electrical engineer, environmental consultant, LEED consultant, and geotechnical engineer. He/ She will partner with suppliers and designer to drive improvement initiatives in safety, efficiency and sustainability.

The role will involve travelling to site to ensure the method of construction, site coordination and equipment performance meets design criteria, concurrent maintainability and reliability standards.

Key deliverables for the role are as follows :

·       Responsible as the point of contact with internal and external stakeholders for design life-cycle management and reporting

·       Responsible for preparing project brief and chairing design management meeting with both internal and external stakeholders

·       Accountable for delivering prompt, cohesive and technically sound reply to customers during both RFP and design development review stages in order to obtain customer sign-off

·       Responsible for a coordinated technical response to customer in RFP proposal, CDE qualification (Comply, Deviation and Exception), scope demarcation clarification and Service Level agreement compliance

·       Hold the designer and reviewer, whom can either be internal or external resources,  responsible for a fit for purpose, cost efficient and sustainable design. This covers multiple disciplines (Architecture, Civil & Structural, Mechanical Electrical Plumbing Sanitary, Network)

·       Hold the permitting consultants responsible for a code compliant design in order to secure relevant construction, occupancy and operational permits for data centre development

·       Hold the permitting consultants responsible for timely, compliant and fit for development submission in order to meet development schedule

·       Responsible for meeting the technical requirements of built to suit design

·       Responsible for the performance of team members

·       Responsible for the planning of resources to meet project requirements

·       Accountable for establishing the scope of work, liability and deliverable milestones for 3rd party consultant and the final contract execution between both parties

·       Responsible for providing engineering solutions to customer, sales, construction and operational team

·       1st level of escalation and coordinator with internal and external stakeholders.

·       2nd level reviewer for master planning, conceptual design, and detailed design.

·       1st level reviewer for LLE and General Contractor performance evaluation.

·       Developer of project-specific design brief and supplementary specifications.

·       Initiator of design improvement from lesson learnt.

·       2nd Reviewer of new equipment and product qualification.

·       2nd Reviewer of scope demarcation matrix between Long Lead Equipment suppliers & installation contractors.

·       2nd Reviewer of design variation order and responsible in presenting justification to Senior Management

·       Oversee project design delivery and construction quality for all APAC projects.

·       Provide innovative proposal to improve speed to market in design delivery

Requirements

·       Proven design experience in Design Manager capacity across regional metros

·       Professional Engineer/Registered Architect with practicing certificate

·       10+ years in design consultancy with at least 5 years in principal engineer position

·       Excellent interpersonal skills, communication, leadership & influencing skills

·       Experienced in Design Bid Build, Design & Build and other design delivery methodology

·       Experience in hyper scale Data Center is preferred

·       Proficient in English and Mandarin

·       Willing to be relocated & travel on project requirement
